Saggar

Saggar's are containers that were originally used to keep ash and smoke produced by wood burning kilns from discoloring the desired “clean” glaze finish of ceramic ware. I will use a Saggar (including aluminum foil) to concentrate fuming techniques inside a gas kiln to purposely expose the pot to all kinds of combustibles in order to create a colorful fog that will randomly color the piece.  Combustibles may include wood shavings, steel wool, minerals, metals, organics and various chemicals.  The temperature inside a saggar can range from 1,200 to 1,800 degrees (F) to produce different affects.
