Pit

Go to the beach, dig a hole, lay down a thick bed of sawdust and situate your pots. (If you only have a few pieces, a 55-gallon oil drum is a great alternative).  Sprinkle in some copper, sodium, and iron, then add some dry seaweed, rafia and cow pies. Heap on some wood logs, branches and twigs soaked in lighter fluid, break out the torch and let it rip! Over the next several hours the fire will settle into a bed of hot, smoldering embers. The flames and smoke swirling about the pit carry the colors that randomly paint the pots. Once the bed cools, you dig around and discover that some pots will be broken, some will lack the coloring you may desire but you may find some that will totally amaze you. Colors and textures so brilliant and unique you know you have something very special.
